One Man's Love & Obsession with a 79 Formula
Boy meets car, boy loses car, sicko defiles car, boy finds car again.
Our Story
I bought my Formula at the age of 19 in 1994. She had been owned by a lady who had become disabled and was unable to drive it anymore. It had sat in her garage for 10 years and had only been driven when relatives came to visit. It only had 47,00 miles on it and I bought it for S2800 (for some reason the dollar sign won't show up on freeservers text). I got married and the combination of my wife's dislike of the car (something like, "this car makes me look like white trash when I have to drive it.") and the fact that we were moving to a very snowy part of Idaho caused me to sell her.

Big mistake. I always regretted selling it and always wondered what had happened to it.

Flash forward seven years and my two oldest boys, August and Seth, and I are driving down the road. I see a black and silver Formula and pull a U-turn. It turns out that it's my old car! The owner comes out and when I tell him that I used to own it he offers to sell it to me for S800. I get him down to S650 and we have a deal. He had bought her from the former High School kid a month earlier and had planned on racing her. He changed his mind and I happened to drive by. She wasn't even for sale. Sadly the kid I sold her too had used and abused her quite hard (He was SICK, I tell ya).

She's going to take a lot of work but it will be fun getting her back in shape (My wife still thinks that it's a white trash car but is happy for me).

***JANUARY 2006 UPDATE***

Returned from an 18 month deployment last month.  12 months were spent in Iraq.  Got staring and dreaming about the old girl when I saw her in the garage.  Spurred on and made fun of by Bill and the fact that he bought a project car (73 Plymouth Scamp: oh, the shame!) while I was away and now it is almost done, I decided, I better get crackin'.  Of course my pockets aren't as deep as Bill's and this will take a while but there's no time like the present.

Saturday, January 21, Benny and I went into the garage while Shandy, August and Seth went to the movies.  He cleaned the exterior while I worked on uncovering the old girl from 1 1/2 years of clutter both on top and inside of her.  When I had cleared away enough, I began to degrease the engine compartment.  Can't remember if I ever mentioned it or not but the 301 and the TH200 are both gone and I have the 400 and TH400 from the 67 Catalina waiting for her.  Most of the front end (minus driver's side fender) is off and I think the next step will be to gut the interior and then get the body plastic media blasted.  I forsee this becoming a 5-10 year project but I'm determined to do it right.  For the most part she will retain a stock look with the exception of the WS6 15X8 snowflakes that I bought.  I'm flirting with the idea of putting on TA wheel well flares but haven't decidced yet.  Interior will remain stock with the exception of the stereo and the drive train is still undetermined on how radical it will get.  I will upgrade and improve the suspension and also do a plethora of other items, I will detail later.  Until then...buh-bye.
